AHMED ISSE AWAD was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government Somalia from January, 2018 to November, 2020. During that period, Amb. Awad had carried out his duties and responsibilities to the Somali people faithfully and diligently and with high level of professional competence and deep empathy. He had also represented the Somali nation in many international forums with dignity and refined diplomatic skills.Ambassador Awad was the Somali Ambassador to the United States of America from September, 2015 to January, 2018. He has the honour of reopening the Somali Embassy in Washington, DC, after it had been closed for twenty-four years.Before coming to Washington, D.C., Ambassador Awad had worked in peace-building for two UN Peace-keeping Missions in Sudan where he worked on conflict resolution, peace building, good governance and the role of civil society in the peace processes in Sudan from 2006 to 2015. Prior to joining the UN, Ambassador Awad had participated as a resource person in the Somali Reconciliation Conference in Arta in Djibouti in 2000 and the Somalia National Reconciliation Conference in Kenya from 2002 to 2004. He also worked as the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister for the Transitional National Government of Somalia (TNG).
Ambassador Awad’s interests include promotion of peace and state building in post-conflict societies, democratic governance, diplomacy, international relations, global affairs, and empowerment of youth and women.

We wish to fully recognize and acknowledge the essential role that our revered Traditional Leaders played in the establishment of Puntland, its political stability and unity of its people. Therefore, we will commit to enhance this critical role of the Traditional Leaders and propose it to be institutionalized and accommodated within a reformed Constitution of Puntland.
